Mark Anthony
gave Cyprus to Cleopatra as a token of his passion and what more
could a girl want? It has beautiful scenery, wonderful beaches,
lively resorts and a superb sunshine record. Most of the resorts
have a variety of watersports available and the gentle breezes are
ideal for windsurfing beginners.
If you fancy checking out
some of the underwater treasures there’s excellent scuba-diving
around the rocky coves of the Cape Greco peninsula. About 30 minutes
drive from Paphos is
Aphrodite’s Rock where, according to legend,
the Goddess of Love and Beauty emerged from the sea.
Away
from the beaches, you can enjoy pottering around the shops for
souvenirs which range from T-shirts to hand-made lace and leather
goods. If you need a new pair of glasses it’s worth waiting until
you get to Cyprus – they’re much cheaper here!
The main
resorts are buzzing well into the small hours, and you can choose
between romantic
harbour side tavernas and beachside restaurants,
serving fresh seafood followed by mouth-watering pastries, or lively
bars followed by discos and live music.
Cyprus has more than
its fair share of archaeological ruins and historical sites; see the
Byzantine Castle, the spectacular
Tombs of the Kings and the ancient
mosaics at the House of Dionysos. It is well worth taking the time
to explore inland.
A day spent in the
Troodos mountains with
their lush valleys, traditional villages and forests of pine and oak
is a day to remember. Getting about the island to see what is on
offer couldn’t be easier as in Cyprus they also drive on the left
hand side of the road!
Cyprus really can please everyone –
couples, families and groups can choose between lively resorts and
quieter settings with plenty of space to relax.

Emba is a small traditional old town
4km from Paphos town, It has a quaint main street with an ancient
12th century stone church as its central point. There are also some
traditional cypriot cafe bars, a supermarket, a theatre company
called
STAGE ONE
who put on regular top quality performances all in English and many

You can walk to the coast going through
the neighbouring area of Lemba in approx 20 mins or you can drive
there in around 5. Lemba has an excellent pottery, a highly
recommended restaurant "the Lemba Tavern" (famous for its suckling
pig) and it is home to the Cyprus College of Art, the gallery of
which is a must to visit as it is probably the strangest building in
Cyprus. There's also a pleasant nature trail to follow which leads
towards the sea.
